llms.txt Generator: Create a Valid llms.txt File in a Minute

Free tool: fill in your key pages and download a valid llms.txt file.

Quick answer

An llms.txt generator builds the Markdown file from your site name, a one-sentence summary and a list of key pages with short notes, in the format the llms.txt proposal describes. Fill in the fields above, then copy or download the file and upload it to your site's root so it loads at /llms.txt.

Fill in the fields above and the file builds as you type. Enter pages one per line as Title | URL | short note. Lines without a full URL are flagged in the output so you can fix them. When it looks right, copy it or download it as llms.txt. Everything runs in your browser.

What the llms.txt generator produces

The output follows the structure in the llms.txt proposal published by Answer.AI in 2024:

Here is the kind of file it produces for a small business:

# Harbour Physio

> Harbour Physio is a physiotherapy clinic in Bristol offering sports
> injury treatment, back pain care and post-surgery rehab.

## Main pages
- [Treatments](https://harbourphysio.example/treatments): conditions we treat and how
- [Prices](https://harbourphysio.example/prices): appointment prices and packages
- [Book](https://harbourphysio.example/book): online booking and opening hours

## Optional
- [About](https://harbourphysio.example/about): our physiotherapists

What to include

Pick the 10 to 50 pages that best explain what you do and answer the questions people ask: product or service pages, pricing, key guides, documentation, contact and booking. Leave out legal pages, tag archives, thin pages and anything you've noindexed.

Write each note as a plain fact an AI could repeat accurately: "plans and limits", "conditions we treat and how", "API reference for the invoices endpoint". Avoid marketing claims; a summary like "the world's best invoicing app" tells an agent nothing.

Order matters too. Put the pages that answer the most common questions first within each section, because an agent working with a small context window may only read the top of the list. For a SaaS product that usually means features, pricing and getting-started documentation; for a local business, services, prices, location and booking.

Common mistakes the llms.txt generator helps you avoid

Relative links. /pricing means nothing to an agent reading the file out of context. The generator flags any line without a full https:// URL.

One giant list. Splitting main pages from optional ones tells an agent with limited context which pages to read first. Keep the main list short.

A missing summary. The blockquote is the line most likely to be quoted or used to describe you. Write it as a factual sentence: what you are, who it's for, and where.

Pages you've hidden from search. If a page is noindexed, redirected or behind a login, it doesn't belong in llms.txt. Check each URL loads before you publish.

How to publish your llms.txt file

  1. Fill in the generator above and download the file as llms.txt.
  2. Upload it to the root of your site so it loads at https://yoursite.com/llms.txt, using your host's file manager, your CMS's static file feature or your code repository.
  3. Open the URL in a browser and check it shows plain text, not your homepage or a 404 page.
  4. Run the llms.txt checker to confirm it's served as a real text file.
  5. Update the file whenever the pages it lists change, or generate it from your sitemap at build time.

Will llms.txt help my SEO?

Not with Google. Google has said it doesn't use llms.txt, and its June 2026 guidance on generative AI features states the file has no effect on Search, including AI Overviews. No major AI search product has confirmed using it to choose citations either. The evidence is summarised in does llms.txt work.

It's still worth having if you publish documentation or a product catalogue that AI agents and coding assistants read, because it gives them a short, accurate map. Just don't let it replace the changes with a known effect: allowing AI search crawlers in robots.txt and writing pages that answer questions directly. Check those with the AI search readiness checker.

Frequently asked questions

Is this llms.txt generator free?

Yes. It's free, needs no account and runs entirely in your browser, so the details you enter aren't sent anywhere. Copy the result or download it as a file.

Where do I put the llms.txt file?

At the root of your domain, so it loads at https://yoursite.com/llms.txt. On WordPress, upload it through your host's file manager or an SEO plugin that supports llms.txt; on Webflow, Shopify and other hosted platforms, use their custom file or app options.

How many pages should llms.txt list?

Usually 10 to 50. The file is meant to be a short map of your most useful pages, not a copy of your sitemap. Put essential pages under the main section and nice-to-have pages under Optional.

Can I generate llms.txt automatically?

Yes. Many documentation platforms generate one, and on custom sites you can build it at deploy time from the same page list as your sitemap. That keeps it current, which matters more than how it was first written.
