Title Tag Pixel Width Checker With a Live Search Result Preview

Free tool: measure title and description width in pixels and preview the result.

Quick answer

A title tag pixel width checker measures how wide your title renders in the font search results use, because Google cuts titles by width, not character count. Keep titles under about 580 pixels and meta descriptions under about 920 pixels. Type yours above to see the width and a live preview.

Type or paste a title above and the checker measures it in your browser as you type, using Arial at 20 pixels for the title and 14 pixels for the description. It shows the width against a 580-pixel title limit and a 920-pixel description limit, and draws a search result preview with an ellipsis where the text would likely be cut. Nothing is sent to a server.

Why measure title tags in pixels

Google's documentation says title links are truncated to fit the device width; it doesn't give a character limit. On desktop, the cut usually falls between about 580 and 600 pixels. Because letters have different widths, that can be 45 characters of capitals and wide letters or 70 characters of narrow ones.

"Keep titles under 60 characters" is a useful approximation, and it fails in both directions:

A pixel checker removes the guesswork for the titles that matter: your highest-traffic pages and anything in all capitals.

How accurate is this title tag pixel width checker?

It's an estimate, and a close one. Browsers render Arial slightly differently, Google adjusts layouts by device and query, and Google sometimes shows a different title altogether. The checker uses the font long used for desktop title links and conservative limits, so a title that passes here will almost always display in full on desktop. Mobile results wrap titles over more lines and show more characters, so desktop is the stricter test.

Google also rewrites titles it finds too long, stuffed with keywords or unrelated to the page, often using the H1 instead. A title that fits and matches the page's H1 is less likely to be replaced.

Title tag pixel width checker tips for common page types

Product pages: product name and type first, then one differentiator, then the brand. "Ridge Trail Running Shoe: Waterproof, 280 g | Acme".

Category pages: the category as people search for it, then the scope. "Waterproof Walking Boots for Women | Acme".

Articles and guides: the question or topic first, then the angle or year. "SEO Audit Cost in 2026: What You Should Pay".

Local services: service plus place, which is what the searcher typed. "Emergency Plumber in Leeds, 24/7 | Brand".

How to use the result

  1. Put the main keyword at the start of the title, where it's never cut.
  2. If the title is over the limit, shorten the qualifier or move the brand name to the end and drop it if needed.
  3. Keep the description's key message in the first 120 characters, so it survives on mobile.
  4. Check that the preview reads well on its own; the title is the headline people click.

Remember that length is a click-through issue, not a ranking one. A title that contains the right keyword matters far more than one that fits perfectly, which is why title tag length explains when to bother and when not to. Descriptions are covered in meta description too long, and how both rank against other audit findings is in which SEO errors matter most, part of how to prioritize SEO issues.

Seotific's page audit checks every title and description against these limits, and checks whether the title contains the keyword the page should rank for, which a length checker can't do.

Frequently asked questions

How many pixels can a Google title be?

On desktop, Google typically cuts title links at around 580 to 600 pixels. Google doesn't publish a fixed limit, so staying under 580 pixels is a safe target that keeps the title intact on almost every desktop result.

How many pixels is a meta description?

Desktop snippets usually show about 920 pixels of description text, roughly 155 to 160 characters. Google often rewrites descriptions for specific queries, so keep the important part in the first 120 characters.

Why does my title look shorter than 60 characters but still get cut?

Because capitals and wide letters such as W and M take more space. A short title in all capitals can exceed 580 pixels while a longer title in lowercase fits. That's why pixel width is a better test than character count.

Does this checker send my titles anywhere?

No. The measurement and preview run entirely in your browser using a canvas element, so the text you type never leaves your device.
